Boston Interiors

Website Redesign + Usability Testing & Exploration

Boston Interiors hired CP to re-architect/re-design the Boston Interiors E-Commerce website. We walked the client through a series of UX methodologies including a competitive analysis, a card sorting exercise, a full re-work of their information architecture resulting in a new sitemap, and one on one interviews with their target audience. From a design perspective we delivered annotated wireframes as well as comps to show the overall design and functionality of the new site. We developed it responsively and showcased all breakpoints through the design templates.

My Role:

UX Lead - I lead and implemented all UX methodologies including rapid testing as well as designing the annotated wires with full responsive design showcasing tablet and mobile iterations.

OUR THINKING

Some key heuristics found in our initial discovery :

1. CONSISTENCY & STANDARDS  -  Users should not have to wonder if certain elements mean the same thing. Don’t keep a user guessing; guide them through intuitive design and functionality.

2. MATCH BETWEEN SYSTEM AND THE REAL WORLD  -  Try to speak the users language so that it is understandable and relatable to the target audience.

3. AESTHETIC & MINIMALIST DESIGN  -  Should not have irrelevant information that will distract the user from the main message or CTA. Avoid clutter and keep a minimalist design while also creating something that is aesthetically pleasing.

4. FLEXIBILITY & EFFICIENCY OF USE  -  It doesn’t matter if you are an expert or a newbie. Design for the novice and the expert so that certain actions can be accomplished for both types of users. An example of this is search vs browse, certain users know what they want vs people who are simply browsing items in the navigation.
